After a period of abandonment, it was re-established as Passauer Lyzeum. Founded in 1973, Universität Passau (University of Passau) is a non-profit public higher-education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Passau (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), Bavaria. About 13,000 students hailing from more than 100 countries and some 1,100 staff in primary employment in the academic units and academic support divisions are engaged in research, teaching and higher education support functions on our University campus, situated a stone’s throw from the Old Town of Passau.

A wide range of sports courses are offered throughout the semester and are free to staff and students, including football, volleyball, basketball, rowing, martial arts and aerobics.[4].

Founded in 1973, it is the youngest university in Bavaria and consequently has the most modern campus in the state. The latest addition to the campus, inaugurated in 2014, is the Centre for Media and Communication, which houses a state-of-the-art newsroom.

The University is comprised of four faculties – Law, Economics, Business and Information Systems, Arts and Humanities (with the Department of Catholic Theology), and Computer Science and Mathematics.
