The village is today a quiet town that lies adjacent to valleys and  of meadows, with a few stone ruins of a farmhouse and church, and a striking bronze sculpture of children. A small Czech village called Ležáky was also destroyed two weeks after Lidice. The men were not blindfolded and were taken to the place of execution without bonds.

This count includes relatives of the partisans, their supporters, Czech elites suspected of disloyalty and random victims like those from Lidice. This village, the name of which became a symbol of Fascist despotism in World War II, lies 20 km west of Prague and eight km from Kladno. Active collaboration between London and the Czechoslovak home front was maintained throughout the war years. The village was to be destroyed and the areal leveled. Czechoslovakia ceased to exist in March 1939, when Hitler occupied the rest of the Czech lands, and the remaining part of Slovakia became a Nazi puppet state. Many people from Kladno district died on the scaffold or in concentration camps. The area also includes a statue of a woman mourning at the grave site and a statue of a mother with children located on the foundations of the original school. As part of the 25th annual festival Pelhřimov – Town of Records it obtained the title the Record of the Year for the highest number of rose bushes in one garden. Three days later the children were taken from their mothers and, except for those selected for re-education in German families and babies under one year of age, were poisoned by exhaust gas in specially adapted vehicles in the Nazi extermination camp at Chełmno upon Nerr in Poland. Bedřich Stefan and Karel Hladík enriched the Garden by statues. After the assassination on Reinhard Heydrich, May 27, 1942, the village was razed to the ground on the command of Karl Hermann Frank. During his short reign of terror, 5000 anti-Fascist fighters and their helpers were imprisoned. Until the end of the war the sight was marked by notices forbidding entry. No trace of the village remained. Shortly after their arrival in Lodz, officials from the Central Race and Settlement branch chose seven children at random to be "Germanized". Here both men and women were shot, and children were sent to concentration camps or sent to the Reich to be "Germanized". In June 1955 the Garden was finally established as the Garden of Peace and Friendship. All children suitable for "Germanizing"  were to be placed with SS families in the Reich and raised as Germans. Although a silent film, it can be understood by all people, irrespective of their color or tongue. The operation by Czechoslovak parachutists in which Heydrich was mortally wounded on May 27, 1942 brought reprisals which shocked the whole world. The present council house, post office, house of culture and shopping center were built at the same time.
